Transition Year

Transition Year (TY) at Blessington Community College offers students a unique opportunity to grow personally, socially, and academically as they move from Junior to Senior Cycle. Rooted in the four key Student Dimensions, our TY programme empowers students to become confident, reflective, and active young adults ready to take on new challenges.

Student Dimensions

  • Personal Growth
  • Being a Learner
  • Civic & Community Engagement
  • Career Exploration

The year combines core subjects with innovative modules, work experience, and community involvement. Students take part in a wide variety of workshops, talks, and projects designed to develop their confidence, teamwork, and creativity, from Gaisce, Junk Kouture, Horticulture, and Animation, to Chinese language and culture, Irish Sign Language, and GAA Coaching and Refereeing. Volunteering and community-based projects help students make a positive difference both within school and beyond.

At BCC, TY is much more than a break from traditional learning, it’s a year of discovery and purpose. Students learn to manage their own learning, reflect through portfolio development, and gain realworld insight into careers and active citizenship.

Our dedicated TY team ensures that every student’s experience is inclusive, enjoyable, and transformative, providing a strong foundation for Senior Cycle and life beyond school.
